SUBJECT: Some Building Permit and Setback Variance Application Fees Waived

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Larimer County, Colorado - In late April, the Board of Larimer County Commissioners approved a proposal to waive double building permit application fees under certain conditions. The add-on fee of $380 for setback variances for existing structures was eliminated as well. Although an owner will still need to pay regular fees associated with a building permit for existing structures, this waiver will provide some assistance. Owners may need to hire licensed professionals to evaluate work completed without a required permit or inspection approvals. For more information, see the County's Code Compliance website at: www.larimer.org/codecompliance/nopermit.htm.

Those wishing to take advantage of the double building permit application fee waiver must meet one of the following criteria:

a. Construction work requiring a building permit completed on a building by a previous owner and the present owner wants to make the construction legal.
b. Construction work requiring a building permit completed on an existing or new building by a present owner who comes in voluntarily to bring the structure into compliance with the Building Code, provided the owner and/or the contractor for the owner is not a repeat offender.
c. Construction work requiring a building permit completed on a new or existing building by a present owner who responds within 10 calendar days of receiving a violation notice.
